The new residential building with a distinctly modern character fits into the agricultural landscape among the hills not far from the historic center of Bassano del Grappa, a municipality in the Venetian foothills.

The building consists of two single-pitched volumes and a swimming pool that, arranged in a “U” shape, generate the private courtyard raised above the ground level from which you can enjoy the view of the surrounding landscape.

The two volumes are separated from each other by a flat roof element that gives them formal unity and are developed on two slightly staggered floors, housing the living area in the north volume and the sleeping area in the west volume.

The prevalent orientation of the building is south-east, opening up towards the landscape with the large window in the living area, which allows continuity between inside and outside, strengthening the bond between the building and the garden.

The north and west fronts, with a more introspective character, have small windows placed at different heights to allow natural lighting of the rooms, while ensuring privacy from the street and protecting the house from the prevailing winds to the north and from summer overheating to the west.

Particular attention was paid to the construction and formal aspects.

The load-bearing walls are made of a solid wood frame with a “joist” system filled with cellulose fiber and braced with gypsum-fiber panels.

The external façade uses a ventilated wall system in solid larch wood that guarantees significant energy savings, improved acoustics and protection from atmospheric agents.

The heating and cooling of the house are obtained with an air-to-air heat pump that uses horizontal geothermal energy, significantly reducing management costs, in combination with a photovoltaic and solar thermal system.

Particular attention was paid to the large south-facing window made with a very thin aluminum profile and low-emissivity glass. The solar gain from the window in winter ensures the comfort of the living area, while in summer a system of external filtering curtains protects from solar radiation.
